CGT Game Changer: Visualizing Cell Metabolism Changes in Real Time with LiCellMo

At Advanced Therapies Week 2025, PHC Corporation of North America presented LiCellMo™, a live cell metabolic analyzer developed to provide continuous, sample-free monitoring of glucose and lactate in cell cultures. This AT-TV session features insights from Tia Harmon, Technical Product Sales Specialist, along with PHC leadership including Hans Broek and Ryo Takahashi, and was hosted by Benjamin McLeod of Convey Bio.

LiCellMo sits inside the incubator, delivering real-time data on cell metabolism without disrupting cultures. This eliminates the need for traditional time-point sampling, giving researchers minute-by-minute insights that can improve the quality and consistency of cell and gene therapy development. Early feedback from beta trials in the US and Canada has been highly positive, with applications already benefiting cancer immunology and stem cell research.

The conversation also introduces LiCellGrow, PHC’s prototype cell expansion system designed to continuously monitor metabolic changes during cell growth. The system aims to support pharmaceutical and biotech companies in optimizing their processes, with a planned commercial launch by the end of the year.

Researchers and developers working on cell therapy and regenerative medicine can gain significant value from real-time metabolic data, making technologies like LiCellMo essential tools for improving manufacturing efficiency and therapeutic outcomes.
