Where is the money moving in cell and gene therapy?

The first quarter of 2026 told a compelling story for cell and gene therapy investment. Capital kept flowing, deal activity stayed broad, and investors showed appetite at every stage of the funding ladder. But which pockets of the market attracted the biggest cheques? And what does the distribution of deals actually tell us about where confidence is building?
This free infographic report from Phacilitate cuts through the noise with clean, visual data covering the full Q1 picture across both cell therapy and gene therapy.

On the cell therapy side alone, total investment reached $569.6M across funding stages from Grant through to Series C. Seed rounds led deal volume with six transactions totalling $65.4M, signalling a healthy pipeline of early-stage discovery. At the same time, Series A activity demonstrated that later-stage clinical programs are attracting serious institutional backing, with $221.0M raised across just three deals. The top five individual cell therapy deals ranged from $50M to $140M, concentrated in oncology, gene therapy platforms, and precision medicine.

Gene therapy painted a different but equally interesting picture. Series C financing dominated in absolute terms, and the spread from Seed through to late-stage rounds reflects an investor base that is backing both emerging platforms and de-risked clinical assets. The top five gene therapy deals spanned Seed, Series B, and Series C rounds, with platforms focused on oncology, rare disease, and gene editing all featuring in the mix.

Beyond the headline numbers, the report profiles the most active investors in both sectors, ranked by deal count. The data reveals a broadly distributed investor base across cell therapy, with no single firm dominating deal flow. In gene therapy, one firm stood out as the only investor to participate in more than one transaction during the period.

Whether you are tracking deal flow, benchmarking investment trends, or building a picture of who is backing what in the advanced therapy space, this report gives you the data to do it in minutes.
