Akadeum Life Sciences, ‘Akadeum’, is launching a first-of-its-kind product that uses its pioneered microbubbles to activate T Cells and releasing the first GMP-grade microbubble product for T cell isolation.

Akadeum is announcing the launch of a new line of products for cell therapy research and development to enable direct leukopak human immune cell isolation and T-cell activation/expansion kits at the American Society of Gene and Cell Therapy’s 26th Annual Meeting.  The global leader in buoyancy-based cell separation and activation technology will expand its Buoyancy-Activated Cell sorting (BACS™) kits enabling the direct isolation of T cells (PBMCs) from leukapheresis material without the need for lysis or density gradient centrifugation.

This novel advancement will provide immunotherapy researchers the ability to produce high-yield, purified PBMCs and T cells within a one-hour turnover time while remaining gentle on fragile immune cells. This will help researchers save time and resources with its simple reagent kits with significantly fewer exhaustion markers compared to competitors’ products.

“The leukopak compatible products added to the BACS™ Microbubble platform emphasizes our commitment to continually grow our offerings into the areas where researchers—and the patients they serve—need them most,” explained Brandon McNaughton, PhD, CEO of Akadeum. “Our hope is that by replacing pre-processing with a more gentle, efficient GMP-grade product, researchers will save time while maintaining a foundation of reliable and reproducible results.”

Leukopaks are blood bags consisting of primarily white blood cells derived from leukapheresis. Leukopaks have a vital role in immune cell research as a clinical standard collection and storage method of PBMCs, including T cells, which, are widely used in immunotherapy and toxicology. Leukopaks also contain granulocytes and hematocrit which are not desired, labor-intensive and difficult to extract without damaging the PBMCs. Akadeum’s new product provides a solution for issues for researchers.

The three new kits in Akadeum’s product launch include:

  1. Human T Cell Activation & Expansion Positive Selection Kit
  2. Microbubble Leukopak Human T Cell Isolation Kit (GMP Grade)
  3. Microbubble Leukopak Human PBMC Isolation Kit

The three kits utilizing Akadeum’s leading BACS™ Microbubble technology will drive powerful large-scale cell isolation, activation and expansion while producing cells that are healthier and more amenable to downstream workflow due to the gentleness of techniques.

The bulk PBMC and GMP-grade T cell isolation kits uses a negative selection process that uses antibodies to recognize unwanted target cells, separating highly pure populations of untouched immune cells and removing them from the sample saving time and resources.
