BJ Van Aken is EVP, West and Head of Portfolio Operations at Phase 3 Real Estate Partners (“P3RE”), one of the nation’s largest owners and operators of life science real estate. BJ is responsible for leading and executing the company’s west coast strategy, overseeing asset management, leasing and operations for a +3M square foot portfolio. Since joining P3RE in 2015, the company has built a portfolio of over +4.5M square feet focused in the top 3 life science clusters of San Francisco, Boston and San Diego. Our primary focus is to deliver mission critical, ready-to-occupy space for early to mid-stage research companies.

BJ has over 18 years of experience in leasing, asset management, financing, development, acquisitions and dispositions across multiple asset types including class “A” life science, office, industrial, retail and medical office throughout California. Prior to joining P3RE, as a Senior Real Estate Manager, he led a management team at CBRE, Inc for 3 years. Prior to CBRE, BJ started his commercial real estate career at San Diego based Capital Growth Properties, Inc.

BJ graduated from Gordon College with Bachelor of Arts degrees in Economics and Business Administration. He holds a California Real Estate License as well as a Real Property Administrator (RPA) designation through the Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA). Outside of P3RE, BJ enjoys spending time with his wife Kirsten and daughter Andie Jane; hiking, playing pickleball, golfing and traveling.
