Kate Excoffon, PhD, is CEO and Founder of Gene Tx Optimized LLC and Chair of the ASGCT Bio-Industry Committee (2025–27). Her 30-year career in AAV, adenovirus, and lentiviral gene therapy spans discovery through first-in-human dosing. Her PhD work at the University of British Columbia was foundational to Glybera, the first gene therapy approved in the Western world; as a postdoc and scientist at the University of Iowa she discovered the airway-tropic capsid AAV2.5T by directed evolution (PNAS 2009); as VP of Research at Spirovant Sciences she led that capsid from preclinical proof-of-concept through IND to first-in-human dosing as SP-101 for cystic fibrosis in 2024. Formerly Full Professor at Wright State University. 50+ publications, three patents. Gene Tx Optimized is a senior advisory practice — CMC, translational science, and IND/CTA strategy to FIH — and a home for the venture-stage biotech programs Kate is building.
