Randy is a partner in Ventac’s San Diego office. He is an MBA/M.Litt./JD who has been a Chief Operating Officer, Venture Partner and Senior Advisor to the IngleWood Ventures and Mesa Verde life science venture funds in San Diego as well as a corporate and business development executive and general counsel for 14 years at three public life science companies in the pharma, bio, medical device and diagnostics (Nanogen, Inc., Apricus Biosciences, Inc. and Innovus Pharmaceuticals, Inc.) and one group of private US and Chinese life science companies (the ACON Group). In addition, he has been a member of two life science angel groups, the Life Science Angels from Menlo Park and the Tech Coast Angels (BioMedTrack Group) in San Diego.

As part of his venture experience, he has participated in the investment of over $65 million into over 25 life science companies in the region. In addition, he has served on the board of directors of five private life science companies and has helped many more companies on their corporate and business development and strategic initiatives. Randy has also been on company screening teams for spin-outs and start-ups from the University of California at San Diego (“UCSD”), San Diego State University (“SDSU”), the University of San Diego (“USD”), the Keck Graduate Institute of Applied Life Sciences at the Claremont Colleges (“KGI”) and the Western University of Health Sciences in Pomona.

He has also taught business law, intellectual property, licensing, biotech law and patent litigation at the Rady School of Business at UCSD, at KGI, the Thomas Jefferson School of Law and at the USD School of Law. In addition, Randy is a graduate of Cornell University, Yale Law School, the University of San Diego School of Business and Oxford University where he was a Rhodes Scholar.
