Episode three of the Phacilitate Leaders World 2020 super plenary series with Jana Stoudemire, Commercial Innovation Officer at Space Tango
“What are you thinking? Isn’t is hard enough to do on earth?” Anthony’s trademark direct, no holds barred style asks the questions we’re probably all thinking. Manufacturing cells in space? Why?
Jana is no stranger to ‘impossible’ biotech ventures, having spent a portion of her career focused on advanced tissue sciences. This was at a time where there was no market for such a product so scaling up, taking products through the FDA and pricing were all unchartered territory. Sound familiar?
Doesn’t everyone want to be an astronaut secretly?
The thing that excites Jana, however, is that microgravity is a completely new lens to science, i.e. what happens to biological systems under microgravity; changes in cell signalling, aggregation and gene expression. Jana states that this became a way for her to think about how she can help find or understand a new pathway or new therapeutic options.
So, what will be the first big success and how will we be involved in the space economy in the coming years?
